The Sun
Day 2 | The Age of Man
EYES WIDE CLOSED
We wanted to illustrate that looking directly at the sun is painfully blinding, but also the fact that we turn a blind eye to the damage we cause to the environment.
Installation
We created a solar rendering by building a 3D object combined with a texture, and a random sound generator. The sun and the sound were connected to a sensor that reads facial expressions and was translated using the software.
Each time the viewer closes the eyes, the sun was enlarged and brightened, and the sound changes to a static noise simulating a solar flare. When the viewer opened his eyes the sun became smaller and the sound changed accordingly. By opening and closing the mouth, the viewer could “play” and influence the sound at any given time.
